Volunteer: Olympia Kiwanis Food Bank Gardens

COVID Protocol: please let Mackenzie know through email or text if you plan to come to volunteer day so we make sure that we have safe tasks for everyone. We consider volunteering in the gardens a fairly safe task, as the virus is less virulent outdoors.

When you arrive

A garden crew member will explain the work tasks for the day, you will be assigned to a work crew and the task will be explained to you in greater detail while in the field. Listen closely to the instructions and ask questions.

You do not need to have gardening experience to volunteer. Expect to work hard and have fun!

What to bring

You will be working outside in the elements, so come prepared to get dirty.

  1.  Closed-toed shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and rain gear if there is a chance of rain.
  2.  Refillable water bottle.
  3.  Work gloves (optional, we have extra)
  4.  We provide all necessary tools and some light snacks.
  5.  All of our sites have toilets and access to potable water.

Who can volunteer?

Everyone can volunteer! We have volunteers from ages 5 to 90. We do our best to accommodate individuals with special physical needs, let us know if you have special needs or requests. Volunteering in the gardens is a way to contribute to the health of our community, work outside, have conversation with old and new friends, and possibly learn something new about growing food.
